NTGA on IceSubmitted by shadow on Mon, 12/06/2010 - 01:35 |
Well the community that we have worked so hard to provide for has failed us. NTGA VIII was a disaster of epic proportions. Its currently 1 PM, and we don't even have enough stuff for a full setup. I'm definitely losing some money today. Its funny how on Monday we had around 8 confirmed 4v4 teams, and only 1 shows up.
So basically NTGA VIII is the most expensive LAN I have ever thrown.
I want to thank Adam, Christian, and Charles for showing up and helping me out. Yall are great friends, and staff members.
Also to everyone else who showed up and LANed, made the best of a bad situation, and threw some money my way to help pay for the room. Thank You very much!!! Its people like yall that I started NTGA for, and people like yall I hate to disappoint by doing this.
To all the kids who didn't show up because they were scared to lose to BRAKE, Goofy, or Icevayne... WTF are yall going to to when you play a good team at MLG. How can you be the best if you are afraid to play with the best?
To those who didn't come because of work WTF, this event has been on the books since the 27th of October. So you had plenty of time to get off work.
To those who, didn't come because they hate V2, well we will always use MLG rules. Not everyone will like every rule, and we all know V2 is a stepping stone for Reach to become a great competitive game. Anyone remember 1 Flag CTF on Last Resort, or KOTH on Isolation in Halo 3. Both gametypes were in early H3 MLG settings. We use what we get. Adapting to the rules is a mark of a great competitor no matter the game.
To those who refuse to come because NTGA doesn't currently have a 2v2 tournament. I could rant on this for a while. First 2v2 with default MLG settings (50 Kills / 15 mins) take way to long, this is compounded by the fact there are always a lot of 2v2 teams. (Ex: NTGA VI, which took 24 hours to run, which more than half was 2v2s.) Over the past year we have tried playing most of 2v2 split screen, tried adjusting the gametypes kill limit and time. All we got for our efforts was criticism, and not the constructive kind. 2v2s *might* come back in 2011, but when they do, they will be using modified MLG gametypes, that the NTGA staff feel balance competitiveness with time management. (We DO have Pros, and other MLG veterans on staff.)
And to those who bailed last minute for no reason, come on we do this for yall. I've lost money on every NTGA except NTGA II, and NTGA III. Venues cost money. And I can't operate NTGA just out of my pocket.
So the staff and I have deiced to put NTGA on ice for the time being. We will return sometime in 2011, during the 2011 MLG season. I really hate to do this, but my hand has been forced. I truly love the North Texas gaming community, and I hate to take away something that *most* of the community enjoys, and has shown unconditional support for.
I hope LANouT Winter 2010 will redeem the NTGA community, because I am pretty disappointed.
I lost $226, on a room rental for the community. I would have been a lot, but thankfully my friends who came pitched in to help out with the cost.
