NTGA on Ice

Well the community that we have worked so hard to provide for has failed us. NTGA VIII was a disaster of epic proportions. Its currently 1 PM, and we don't even have enough stuff for a full setup. I'm definitely losing some money today. Its funny how on Monday we had around 8 confirmed 4v4 teams, and only 1 shows up.

So basically NTGA VIII is the most expensive LAN I have ever thrown.

I want to thank Adam, Christian, and Charles for showing up and helping me out. Yall are great friends, and staff members.

Also to everyone else who showed up and LANed, made the best of a bad situation, and threw some money my way to help pay for the room. Thank You very much!!! Its people like yall that I started NTGA for, and people like yall I hate to disappoint by doing this.

To all the kids who didn't show up because they were scared to lose to BRAKE, Goofy, or Icevayne... WTF are yall going to to when you play a good team at MLG. How can you be the best if you are afraid to play with the best?

To those who didn't come because of work WTF, this event has been on the books since the 27th of October. So you had plenty of time to get off work.

To those who, didn't come because they hate V2, well we will always use MLG rules. Not everyone will like every rule, and we all know V2 is a stepping stone for Reach to become a great competitive game. Anyone remember 1 Flag CTF on Last Resort, or KOTH on Isolation in Halo 3. Both gametypes were in early H3 MLG settings.  We use what we get. Adapting to the rules is a mark of a great competitor no matter the game.

To those who refuse to come because NTGA doesn't currently have a 2v2 tournament. I could rant on this for a while. First 2v2 with default MLG settings (50 Kills / 15 mins) take way to long, this is compounded by the fact there are always a lot of 2v2 teams. (Ex: NTGA VI, which took 24 hours to run, which more than half was 2v2s.) Over the past year we have tried playing most of 2v2 split screen, tried adjusting the gametypes kill limit and time. All we got for our efforts was criticism, and not the constructive kind. 2v2s *might* come back in 2011, but when they do, they will be using modified MLG gametypes, that the NTGA staff feel balance competitiveness with time management. (We DO have Pros, and other MLG veterans on staff.)

And to those who bailed last minute for no reason, come on  we do this for yall. I've lost money on every NTGA except NTGA II, and NTGA III. Venues cost money. And I can't operate NTGA just out of my pocket.

So the staff and I have deiced to put NTGA on ice for the time being. We will return sometime in 2011, during the 2011 MLG season. I really hate to do this, but my hand has been forced. I truly love the North Texas gaming community, and I hate to take away something that *most* of the community enjoys, and has shown unconditional support for.

I hope LANouT Winter 2010 will redeem the NTGA community, because I am pretty disappointed.

I lost $226, on a room rental for the community. I would have been a lot, but thankfully my friends who came pitched in to help out with the cost.

NTGA VII

I'm excited to write this post, about NTGA's return to dominance in the local tournament scene. Our first Halo Reach event went off with no snags. Most importantly no power issues this time. Administratively the event was much easier to run with the removal of 2v2, we were out of the venue by 11pm. We had 28 players in the FFA, and 7 teams in the 4v4. Expect a post soon about NTGA VIII, and some changes in our structure.

The Results:

4v4 Results:

  1. Configure (IceVayne, Outlaw, Unlegit, Nineball) - $400
  2. H-Town Swagga (Amplfye, Zildjian, Sprayn, KeKe) - $100
  3. Extended Photography (Moczy, Exerted, Windy, Prodigal) - $45

NTGA VII - October 23, 2010 (Welcome Back)

I'm happy to finally announce the time and place of NTGA VII. As you can infer from the title NTGA VII is taking place on October 23, 2010. So now for the place, we are going to be at the Homewood Suites in Denton, Tx. You can find detailed info on the new venue not limited to the location directions, and food in the area; on the Venue Info page.

NTGA VII will be the site of our two inaugural Halo Reach Tournaments. We are holding a FFA and a 4v4 tournament. Since Reach is a new game, we will use the placing from the FFA to seed the 4v4 teams. After NTGA VII players will acquire NTGA points which will be used to seed them at future events.. We will use the latest version of the MLG Reach gametypes for the 4v4 tournament. Be sure to check out the Rules page for all of the rules about the event and the specific tournaments. Remember by attending NTGA you are implying that you have read and agree to all the rules on posted on the site.

Gametypes will be posted within a week of NTGA VII.

I hope to see everyone at our one year anniversary event event!

The Longest Post Ever

Well folks we are on the eve of Halo Reach, and I have a few important updates for everyone. IT IS IMPORTAINT THAT YOU READ EVERYTHING IN THIS POST!

First I would like to take the a moment to apologize for the lack of NTGA information as of late. Since NTGA V there has been little to no information about the future plans of NTGA. I would like to apologize for that. The honest truth is that the rest of the NTGA staff I and were just burned out, especially with Halo 3. I can’t speak for the rest of the staff, but I really wanted to enjoy what is probably my last summer in college. However I want to take this chance to say that NTGA is returning for hopefully our best season ever, featuring Halo Reach.

So all know that in less than a week Reach will drop, so what does this mean for the North Texas Gaming Association? Well I can guarantee that we will have a whole season (and more) of great completion. The Next NTGA will be in October, and will serve as our one year anniversary event.  The date and location are TBA at this time, but let it be known that NTGA VI will take place in the 10th month of the year 2010.

Now for everyone’s favorite part, the NTGA Halo Reach Rules and procedures! First off, since NTGA is replacing Halo 3 with Halo Reach, all rank points are now null. What this means is that there will be no seeding for the 4v4s based on previous events. I know some people aren’t going to like this, but since it is a new game this is the only far way to do it. However there is a consolation for those who had NTGA rank points. For NTGA VI only we are going to seed the 4v4 based on FFA performance. This means that NTGA will function exactly like an MLG Combine or Halo 2 event. After NTGA VI we will resume seeding via our point system. As for gametypes, we plan on using whatever MLG has released at the time of NTGA VI. This however, does not exempt players from reading and understanding NTGA rules, which might differ from MLG. All NTGA rules will placed on the site at least 2 weeks before the NTGA VI, and it is each and every player’s responsibility to know and abide by the rules.

We are also planning a winter event for November, as well as an NTGA / Fallout Extravaganza at MLG Dallas (Dallas is my Birthday Weekend).

So to sum it up:

  • NTGA VI in October
  • NTGA / Fallout / Shadow’s Birthday Party @ MLG Dallas.
  • NTGA VII in November (Winter Event)
  • Read the Damn Rules
  • NTGA is back ----- Remember Reach

-Shadow

PS: I will be active in the forums again I promise.
